POLAROID LIFTS & TRANSFERS

POLAROID LIFTS & TRANSFERS
This assignment pushed the exploration of Polaroid lifts and transfers, digitally and traditionally. I learned that one can do much more with a Polaroid than the original taking of the photograph - also being able to take it apart, literally, to become unrecognizable photography pieces. All photos are mine.
Below is a lift done digitally using Photoshop. An online tutorial was followed to complete this, explaining how to get the wavy movement and edges.
Below is a digital transfer, also done following a tutorial using Photoshop, instructing how to get the texture of the paper through the photo, infamous border, and overall realistic transfer look.
Next are traditional lifts. These were done by cutting the border off the Polaroid photo, peeling off the back, and submerging in hot water. The acetate cover was gently detached using a brush in the water, and the image was transferred to a bin of cold water via piece of paper. The brush is now used to spread out the image as flat and proportional as possible, finally lifted out of the water and left to dry once satisfied.
Below are Polaroid transfers, created by exposing a piece of film onto a Polaroid, then peeling the back off the Polaroid and pressing onto a piece of paper. The idea is to press hard enough so that there are as little white spots as possible and the image is clear.
